Obakpororo Kelvin, the 27-year-old man accused of murdering his girlfriend, Excellent, has confessed in chilling detail how he killed the mother of his two children during a violent altercation that has since gripped public attention across Nigeria.

In a confessional video released by the Delta State Police Command through its spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright on Sunday, Kelvin admitted to hitting the victim on the forehead three times with a hammer during a fight at his residence.

The suspect, now in custody, made the revelation days after he initially fled the scene.

“I’ve known her for six years. She has two kids for me, one is three years old, and the other is going to two,” Kelvin began.

Speaking on what led to the killing, he said an argument broke out between him and Excellent after he allegedly found signs that she was involved in sex work.

“She used to do hook-up,” he claimed. “I saw Vegas in her bag and clothes to change. When I confronted her, she carried a knife, and I carried a hammer.”

Kelvin said the hammer was not a weapon he kept for violence but one he used at home.

“The hammer was in my house; I use it to nail my children’s photo frames,” he explained.

“We got into a fight. She bit me. I overpowered her and collected the knife. Then I used the hammer to hit her on her forehead three times. After that, she died.”

He also revealed that he had consumed hard drugs before the incident.

“On that day, I took two tablets of tramadol (100 milligrams each) and I smoked,” Kelvin said. “It was under the influence of the tramadol and the smoke that I did it.”

Overcome with remorse, Kelvin said he attempted to end his own life after realizing she was dead.

“I jumped down from the stairs because I wanted to die with her, but when I landed, nothing happened to me. I was okay.”

When asked about his occupation, the suspect responded, “I do street [yahoo] and farming for a living.”

SP Edafe Bright confirmed the suspect is in custody and assured the public that justice will be served.

“The suspect will be charged to court. We are committed to ensuring that this case is not swept under the carpet,” he said.

The brutal killing, which occurred between June 25 and 26, sparked widespread outrage on social media, as details of the gruesome act surfaced online.

With Kelvin now in police custody, many Nigerians are calling for swift prosecution and stronger action against domestic and gender-based violence.
