Authorities in Medina have detained a pilgrim following an alleged attempt to kill his elderly father inside the revered Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, one of Islam’s holiest sites.
According to preliminary reports, the suspect was apprehended after allegedly trying to strangle his ailing father within the premises. Security personnel stationed at the mosque intervened swiftly, preventing a fatal outcome and taking the man into custody.
Investigators said the suspect claimed he believed that dying within the holy mosque would guarantee his father entry into paradise, a justification that has drawn strong condemnation and concern from religious observers.
