Nicolás Maduro, the recently apprehended president of Venezuela, has appeared in court today after his arrest in his home country.
A motorcade transporting the ousted leader was spotted arriving at a New York City courtroom after leaving the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

This follows his capture by US military forces during an operation on Saturday, and he is facing charges related to drugs and weapons smuggling.
The future of Venezuela now hinges on President Donald Trump, who has declared himself “in charge,” while acting president Delcy Rodríguez has called for “cooperation” with the US, indicating a shift in her stance following the military action.
The US is working to establish a compliant interim government in Venezuela, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating that the focus is on formulating policy and maintaining “leverage.”
In a related development, Trump suggested the possibility of military intervention in Colombia, and urged Mexico to improve its efforts regarding drug issues, and mentioned that the US needs Greenland.
