The police have launched a nationwide search following the disappearance of one of its official vehicles from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, raising alarms about potential internal security issues.
The vehicle, a Toyota Buffalo Land Cruiser with registration number NPF 5594 D and chassis number JTELU71JX0B027126, was reported stolen on July 28, 2025, as noted in an internal wireless memo sent to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID).
The SUV, which was assigned to the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, was found to be missing after it was reportedly taken from the official parking area.
A police communication obtained by reporters on Sunday confirmed the incident, stating: “The vehicle assigned to the Department of Operations, FHQ Abuja, was reported missing/stolen or removed from its parking spot on 28/07/2025 from the parking lot of FHQ, Louis Edet House, Abuja.

“The case is currently under investigation. Please disseminate this information to formations, area commands, and divisions for potential recovery.”
In response to the report, all area commands, divisional police officers, and tactical units across Nigeria have been instructed to stay vigilant and treat the situation as a “high priority.”
Security agencies have also been directed to promptly report any information that could assist in recovering the vehicle.
