Lt. A.M. Yarima, a young officer of the Nigerian Navy who recently clashed with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, reportedly escaped a suspected assassination attempt in Abuja on Sunday evening.
Military sources who confirmed the incident to The Trumpet said the officer was shadowed by unknown men dressed in black, travelling in two unmarked Hilux with no registration plate numbers. The vehicles allegedly tailed him from the NIPCO filling station near the Line Expressway and continued the pursuit up to Gado Nasco Way.
According to one of the sources, Lt. Yarima became aware that he was being followed and carried out a “strategic maneuver” to shake off the suspected attackers. The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 p.m.

The source added that security authorities have opened an investigation and are treating the matter with “appropriate seriousness.” Additional information is being withheld to protect the integrity of the ongoing process.
The development comes only days after a widely circulated video showed Lt. Yarima and other security personnel in a heated confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed plot in the Gaduwa District. The altercation sparked intense public debate and prompted intervention from the Presidency, which suspended the planned demolition at the location.
