Following the the advice from the Minister of Justice and the Anthony General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi for the local government elections in Osun State to be placed on hold, Governor Ademola Adeleke has insisted that the local government elections in Osun State will proceed as scheduled under the supervision of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), dispelling any doubts about a possible postponement.
Speaking earlier today while receiving a delegation of civil society organizations in the state to monitor the elections, Governor Adeleke emphasized that Osun voters are ready to exercise their democratic rights on Saturday. He expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation by OSSIEC, assuring the electorate of a smooth and transparent voting process.
“I welcome you all to Osun State. Our people are prepared for elections tomorrow. They are eager to elect their preferred candidates as chairmen and councilors,” the Governor stated.

“OSIEC has done a marvelous preparatory job, according to reports at my disposal. Several political parties are participating, and I believe there will be a level playing ground for all to test their popularity with the masses,” he added.
Addressing concerns and controversies surrounding the elections, Governor Adeleke underscored the supremacy of the rule of law in a democratic setting, cautioning against unlawful interference.
“Democracy is governed by the rule of law. Nobody can assume the authority of the courts. My advice to all parties, including local and national stakeholders, is to abide by democratic norms. As for me and my people, we stand by the rule of law, not illegal self-help.”
Governor Adeleke assured that the successful conduct of the elections would accelerate development at the grassroots level and called for peaceful participation from all residents.
“The election will hold, and the outcome will pave the way for fast-tracked development at the local level. I urge our people to remain peaceful. Osun is a truly peaceful state,” he noted.
