Olorogun Jaro Egbo, Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, has suspended the Taskforce for Wrong Parking of Vehicles, Tricycles (Keke), and Ughelli Main Market Environmental Sanitation. This comes in response to mounting allegations of illegal extortion by taskforce members who were accused of exploiting road users and market women under the guise of enforcing council regulations.
In a statement issued on October 21 by the Secretary to the Ughelli Local Government, Unuavworho Irikefe Goodluck, on behalf of Chairman Egbo, it was made clear that all activities of the taskforce are suspended until a new, legitimate body is established. Egbo emphasized that the suspension is meant to protect the public from exploitation and restore trust in local governance.
Egbo warned the suspended task force members to cease all harassment and extortion activities immediately, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability within Ughelli North.

This decisive action is part of a broader campaign led by Egbo to address issues affecting the community. Recently, he has spearheaded efforts to demolish illegal structures obstructing drainage systems, further demonstrating his commitment to the well-being of residents.
As investigations into the extortion scandal continue, the council promises to implement reforms that will prevent future abuses of power. A new task force will be established, one that prioritizes integrity, fairness, and genuine service to the community.
