Chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government of Zamfara State, Yahaya Yari, has reported the tragic death of two individuals, following an explosion from locally made gunpowder at a weekly market in Talata Mafara Town on Tuesday.
The incident, which took place amid market activities and near a display of locally made guns, left over 44 people injured.
In an interview with journalists, Yari detailed the swift emergency response that ensured the victims received immediate treatment.
He said initially, those injured were taken to Talata Mafara General Hospital, and subsequently, all 44 were transferred to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, for further medical care.
While two of the injured unfortunately succumbed to their injuries, the remaining 42 are reported to be responding to treatment.

“When the incident happened, we immediately took an emergency response which controlled the situation and took the victims to hospital.
“After receiving minor treatment at Talata Mafara General Hospital, we took all the 44 injured victims to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, for further treatment.
“Out of the 44 victims, two have died, the remaining 42 are currently responding to treatment,” the chairman said.
Yari expressed his hopes for peace and stability, calling on the community to pray against the recurrence of such incidents, and for the overall safety of the state and country.
