In a bid to improve healthcare services and education in Uwheru, the Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Jaro Egbo, has stressed the importance of good health and education as key drivers of human development.

During a visit to the Uwheru Primary Health Centre on Thursday, October 17, 2024, Egbo committed to providing much-needed resources to the health facility and a nearby primary school, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to the community.

Egbo highlighted that good health is fundamental to human productivity and well-being, and without it, all efforts to improve livelihoods would be in vain. He assured residents that his administration would not neglect the health sector but instead offer substantial support to improve services at the Uwheru Primary Health Centre.

During the visit, the Officer-in-Charge of the health center, Esther Ighravwe, praised Egbo for providing solar street lights, which have already improved security and functionality. However, she appealed for additional solar lights around the compound, highlighting shortages of beds and other essential hospital equipment. Ighravwe also revealed that the facility serves 17 surrounding communities but faces challenges like flooding, leaky roofs, and a lack of clean water, especially during emergencies.

In response, Hon. Jaro Egbo promised to donate more hospital beds and install 10 additional solar street lights. He also pledged to carry out repairs on the buildings to address the issues raised by the health center’s staff. “We will ensure that this health center is better equipped to serve the people of Uwheru and surrounding communities,” Egbo said.

After his visit to the health center, Egbo stopped by Odja Primary School in Uwheru, where he issued a directive for the Head Teacher, Mrs. Edna Ishaka, to re-enroll pupils who had dropped out due to financial constraints. Egbo promised to provide school uniforms, desks, and textbooks to ensure that no child in the community is left behind in education.

Mrs. Edna Ishaka expressed her gratitude to the chairman, promising to implement his orders immediately. “This support will make a huge difference in the lives of our pupils, and we are truly grateful for the chairman’s commitment to education,” she said.

Hon. Jaro Egbo’s visit to Uwheru underscores his administration’s focus on improving both healthcare and education in rural communities. By providing resources such as hospital beds, solar lights, school uniforms, and learning materials, the chairman aims to enhance the quality of life for residents in the region.
