The Chairman of Obot Akara Local Goveenment Area of Akwa Ibom State, Simon Dominic Akpan has said that the local government autonomy is fully being implemented in the state.
This he revealed while reeling out his achievement in his first year anniversary in office
Speaking to journalists in his residence at Ikot Ekpene, Akpan attributed his achievement in education, agriculture, security, empowerment and job creation and infrastructure including rural road construction during his last one year in office to effective implementation of the local government autonomy by governor Umo Eno.
“The governor has truly demonstrated that he is a true Pastor and a man with good conscience. He has practically shown us good will by allowing allocation meant for the council to flow directly to the third tier, otherwise where do you think I would get the kind of resources I have to undertake all these projects?” he questioned.
He disclosed that the major challenges facing the council is the frequent security infractions between some communities within his council and their neighbouring Abia state.
“Because of insecurity, I have committed N10 million naira in funding local vigilantes and 60 of them have been trained, and are currently working with the police to provide intelligence and other security logistics,” he said.
He therefore thank the police commissioner for working with the council to curtain security breaches around the local government area.
In the education sector, Akpan stated that he was on a mission to reposition the sector, disclosing that the council has procured 5000 customise exercise books to be shared freely across all public schools in the council later this month.
Also, in the health sector not left out, according to him, a modern health care facility will soon be commissioned which will address the immediate health needs of the rural Obot Akara residents especially pregnant women, nursing mothers and children.
“In line with the ARISE agenda of the Governor, Umo Eno, we have intervened in education to ensure access to education by every home.

“Let me specifically thank God for imbuing me with the wisdom and knowledge to oversee this council effectively working with my administrative heads in the council.
“Also I have a cordial relationship with my councilors and supervisors, which, without them, no meaningful progress would have been achieved in the last one year” he noted.
The chairman further pledges full support for the governor’s quest for re-election come 2027, assuring that his local government area will never betray the governor, and commend his resolve to take the state to the centre through the All Progressive Congress (APC).
He stated that, such political calculation by the governor will draw a lot of federal presence to the State” for sustained growth and development”.
