Bayer Leverkusen has acquired defender Jarell Quansah from Liverpool for a fee of £35 million.
The 22-year-old center-back has signed a five-year contract with the German Bundesliga team.
Quansah was part of the England squad that triumphed in the European Under-21 Championship, defeating Germany in the final on Saturday.
This transfer marks the third agreement between the two clubs this summer, following Liverpool’s acquisition of midfielder Florian Wirtz and defender Jeremie Frimpong.
Newcastle had expressed interest in signing Quansah last summer as part of a deal that would send winger Anthony Gordon to Liverpool, but the Reds rejected the offer.
Since Quansah is a homegrown player, the fee Liverpool receives from Leverkusen will be classified as ‘pure’ profit in relation to profit and sustainability regulations.
Quansah developed through the Liverpool academy and made 58 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.
