The Permanent Secretary in the Office of Drainage Services for the Lagos State government, Mahmood Adegbite, has declared that residents of Lekki drilling boreholes are most likely consuming what he referred to as “shit water.”
During a recent stakeholders meeting, Adegbite elaborated on the ongoing challenges facing the highbrow area.
He said that “yesterday, we experienced an unusually heavy rainfall, which is atypical for this time of year, as August generally marks a dry spell.
“Nevertheless, this unexpected weather pattern is symptomatic of various complex environmental and infrastructural issues we are grappling with.”
He acknowledged the state government’s investment in flood management efforts, saying “despite our significant commitment to addressing flooding, there remains a substantial amount of work to be done.”

Adegbite emphasized the critical state of wastewater treatment in the Lekki axis, warning that “everyone digging boreholes in this vicinity is likely consuming contaminated water that poses serious health risks.”
He further explained the government’s proactive measures, stating that “our plans include implementing comprehensive wastewater treatment solutions in this area, which will be pivotal in mitigating public health risks and eliminating diseases associated with untreated waste.”
Adegbite’s comments underscore the urgent need for improved water management and infrastructure to safeguard the health and well-being of residents in Lekki.
