Late gospel singer Osinachi’s husband, Peter Nwachukwu has been sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide resulting in her death on April 8, 2022.
He was sentenced by Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court on Monday, in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.
The Judge held that the prosecution had proven the burden of proof placed on it by the law and subsequently found the defendant guilty.
He was arraigned on June 3, 2022, by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on a 23-count charge that included culpable homicide, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, and spousal battery.
During the trial, the prosecution presented 17 witnesses, including two of Osinachi’s children, and submitted 25 documents as evidence.

In response, Nwachukwu testified on his behalf and called four additional witnesses, along with submitting four exhibits.
Before sentencing, Nwachukwu’s counsel, Reginald Nwali, requested leniency, while the prosecution urged the court to uphold the law.
Ultimately, Justice Nwosu-Iheme sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging for the primary charge and imposed various prison terms and fines for the other counts, emphasizing the gravity of the offenses committed.
