The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the death of three persons after the collapse of a building in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, and the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, provided an update in a statement released to newsmen on Wednesday.
Oke-Osanyintolu revealed that the three victims, who were trapped beneath the rubble of the construction site, did not survive.
However, he confirmed that the corpses of the three victims have been recovered from the rubble.
According to him, the agency was able to successfully rescue nine adult males, all of whom received immediate medical attention from LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.
“The emergency response was initiated following distress alerts received at 14:02 hours, prompting LASEMA to activate the state’s emergency response plans from both Agbowa and Alausa.

“During the investigation, it was determined that three individuals were trapped under the debris,” the agency said in the statement.
LASEMA further stated that search and rescue operations remain underway, as they continue to assess the situation.
It added that all recovered bodies have been transferred to the Igbogbo Police Station for further processing.
LASEMA said that while an investigation into the cause of the building’s collapse is ongoing, it emphasized that appropriate safety measures were implemented at the scene, with the operational area cordoned off to ensure the safety of all personnel involved in the emergency response efforts.
