The Lagos State Government has announced the deployment of advanced technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drones, to combat insecurity. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveiled the plan during the commissioning of 260 security vehicles and other critical equipment for the police and other security agencies.
The Governor emphasized the state’s commitment to leveraging technology for a robust security framework. “We are deploying AI-driven tools and drone technology to ensure effective monitoring of waterways, densely populated areas, and traffic management. With over 500 high-definition cameras already installed across the state, our surveillance network is set to expand to 2,000 cameras in the next phase,” Sanwo-Olu disclosed.
In addition to advanced technology, the state has initiated a groundbreaking partnership with the Nigerian Police to construct 2,200 flats at the old Ikeja Barracks. This public-private partnership aims to address housing challenges faced by security personnel, ensuring their well-being as they serve the community.
“The first phase of this project will be completed during the tenure of the current Inspector General of Police. It’s unacceptable for those safeguarding us to live in conditions that jeopardize their own safety,” the Governor said.
The event also marked the 18th anniversary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), which has consistently provided resources and support for security operations in the state. Governor Sanwo-Olu commended private sector donors, including major banks and philanthropists, for their contributions.
“Today, we are handing over 260 security vehicles, ballistic helmets, and other critical tools as a testament to our commitment to a safer Lagos. This gesture underscores our belief that security is everyone’s responsibility,” the Governor stated.

Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the efforts of the Lagos State Security Council, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and private sector partners in maintaining peace and safety. He urged continued collaboration, particularly from the oil and gas industry and telecom operators, to deepen their involvement in funding security initiatives.
The Governor highlighted ongoing efforts to integrate technology into traffic management and law enforcement. Innovations include handheld devices for traffic officers and smart systems that capture traffic violations in real time. Offenders will receive automated notices complete with evidence of their infractions.
“These initiatives are not just about enforcement but deterrence. We are committed to building a 21st-century security ecosystem that guarantees safety for residents and businesses,” Sanwo-Olu affirmed.
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded by appealing for greater private sector involvement, emphasizing the collective responsibility of ensuring security. “Security is a shared duty. While the government remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, your support enables us to do more. Let us continue this partnership to create a safe and thriving Lagos.”
The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, other top government and security officials, captains of industry, and key stakeholders attended the event.
