Lagos State has sealed multiple markets in the Ketu and Mile 12 areas for persistent violations of waste disposal regulations.
The action, carried out overnight, comes in line with the state’s commitment to environmental sanity and enforcement of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
The sealed markets were found guilty of illegal waste disposal on roads, medians, and highways, practices that pose significant risks to public health and safety.
In a statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, the state government emphasised that these enforcement measures are necessary to restore order in public spaces and to instill accountability among market stakeholders.
“Market stakeholders must take responsibility for proper waste management going forward,” the statement read.

The sealed markets are Erukan Market, Mile 12; Oja Oba Market, Ketu; Owoseni Tundas Market; Oba Ogunjobi Market, Mile 12; shop owners at BRT Terminal, Mile 12; Mile 12 Bus Stop shops and Ketu Terminal Market (6 plazas).
Others include Ifesowapo Shop Owners Market, Mile 12; Demurin Street Plaza Shops, Ketu; The Occupant, 6 Demurin Road, Ketu; Ifelodun Market, Ketu; Ibadan Unit 1 Park (between Babajide Sanwo-Olu Market and Ikosi Fruit Market), and the Ketu Tipper Garage.
The state government urged residents and traders to support ongoing efforts to create a cleaner and more responsible Lagos.
“Let us work together to build a cleaner, safer, and more responsible Lagos,” the statement added.
