Lagos monarch the Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has stripped six traditional chiefs of their titles for attending the flag-off campaign rally of the Labour Party (LP) in the Apapa area of Lagos State without his consent.
The affected chiefs are Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere).
Speaking after a palace meeting convened on Monday, Oba Oyegbemi expressed deep disappointment over what he described as a breach of palace protocol and an act of impersonation.
In an official statement sighted by our correspondent on Tuesday, the monarch said:
“Following the outcome of this event, which unfolded without my prior knowledge, I summoned the bales, balogun, and the Ojora Councils to the ancient palace for clarification.
“In a tone marked by disappointment and authority, I stated that the chiefs’ actions were in violation of their duties.

“No chief should make decisions or act on my behalf without my explicit consent, as they all serve to represent me and uphold the traditions of our land.”
The Ojora stressed that his decisive action to strip the six chiefs of their titles underscores his commitment to maintaining order, discipline, and respect within the traditional leadership structure.
During the palace assembly, Oba Oyegbemi also commended the state government’s development initiatives in Ojora land, pledging his continuous support for the administration’s efforts in fostering growth and progress in the kingdom.
The monarch affirmed the importance of transparency and cooperation between traditional institutions and political affairs, reminding all chiefs of their responsibilities and loyalty while serving under the revered Ojora Kingdom.
