A Lagos driver has survived what could have been a traumatic tragedy. when a 40-foot filled container crashed onto his Toyota Camry at Mile 2.
In a news release on X on Monday, November 25, 2024, the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, verified the occurrence.
He said that “through the swift and coordinated response of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency services, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the driver of the vehicle was rescued alive.”
According to the report, the victim was immediately treated after being taken to the hospital by the joint rescue team.
Taofiq stated that officers from the Kirikiri Police Division provided adequate security throughout the operation, ensuring a safe and orderly atmosphere for emergency responders.

Following the rescue, the Toyota Camry was successfully recovered from beneath the container.
Efforts to evacuate the fallen container are underway, as LASTMA officers continue to manage the scene to relieve traffic congestion and restore order.
Meanwhile, the LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has highlighted the crucial need to adequately secure containers by truck drivers and owners.
He emphasised that neglect in this regard endangers lives and property, and urged strict adherence to traffic safety procedures to avoid such disastrous events.
“LASTMA remains resolute in its dedication to safeguarding the safety and efficiency of Lagos’ highways, and it continues to collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to enforce traffic regulations and improve public safety,” he said.
