A Lagos court has issued an arrest warrant for Ekweozor Peter, a suspected internet scammer, who failed to appear in court for his scheduled hearing.
According to a statement on the Economic and financial crime commission, the ruling came from Justice Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Peter was originally arrested on May 13, 2024, along with others, after the authorities received reliable information about a group of internet scammers operating out of the Indy-Pool Hotel in Ajegunle, Lagos State.

Investigators found that he had created fake accounts on Facebook and Instagram, pretending to be a female adult film star from Atlanta, USA, in an attempt to trick people online.
After his arrest, Peter was released on bail but was told to check in at the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on specific dates.
However, he did not show up for his court date, which led the prosecutor, Ayanfe Ogunsina, to inform the court that efforts to locate him and bring him back for arraignment had been unsuccessful.
It was also revealed that the two people who had guaranteed his bail had also disappeared.
Ogunsina then asked the court for permission to issue an arrest warrant for Peter, and Justice Fadipe approved the request. The case has been postponed until June 18, 2025, for further proceedings.
