The Lagos State government has announced the commencement of the 2026 electronic registration and payment process for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both public and private junior secondary schools across the state.

The registration exercise, coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board, is scheduled to run from Monday, January 26, to Friday, March 27, 2026.

It is designed to promote a fully digital, contact-free process that enhances transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the conduct of the examination.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the state government and shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.

The statement explained that the initiative aligns with the state’s policy of leveraging technology to streamline examination procedures and eliminate the need for physical interaction between school proprietors and the examination board.

Speaking on the exercise, the Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu, said schools are required to use the newly issued School Code for the registration process.

He explained that public junior secondary schools are to download the offline data capturing application via the board’s official portal at bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng.

Orunsolu added that approved private junior secondary schools, institutions operating under special permission, and continuing education centres are to access the board’s payment and registration portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng to complete their registration and generate login credentials.

He disclosed that approved private junior secondary schools and public continuing education centres will pay a registration fee of ₦10,000 per candidate, while junior secondary schools operating with special permission and private continuing education centres are to pay ₦15,000 per candidate.

The registrar also advised schools presenting candidates with special needs, including visual impairments or albinism, to formally notify the board in advance to allow for adequate preparations before the examination begins.

He further warned that late registration may attract penalties, noting that additional guidelines, where necessary, will be communicated to schools through their respective zonal officers.
