Fresh figures released by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) have placed Lagos State at the top of the list of states receiving federal allocations, with ₦200.21 billion disbursed to the state over the latest three-month period.
The allocation records show that Lagos received the highest share among the 36 states, followed by Delta State with ₦143.41 billion. Rivers State received ₦123.96 billion, while Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom got ₦114.48 billion and ₦109.76 billion respectively.
The latest figures have sparked renewed public interest in how state governments manage and utilise funds received from the federation account, particularly at a time when many Nigerians continue to face economic hardship and rising living costs.
Observers say the data underscores the significant financial resources available to state governments and shifts attention to how effectively such funds are translated into development projects and public services.
Beyond the five highest recipients, several states also recorded substantial allocations during the period. Kano received ₦75.04 billion, Oyo ₦68.98 billion, Jigawa ₦55.74 billion, Ondo ₦53.50 billion, Katsina ₦52.58 billion, Borno ₦52.38 billion and Anambra ₦52.17 billion.
Other states, including Benue, Imo, Adamawa, Abia, Edo, Kebbi and Niger, each received between ₦47 billion and ₦51 billion.
The release of the figures has reignited calls for greater transparency and accountability in public finance management, with governance advocates urging citizens to monitor state budgets and assess the impact of government spending on their communities.
According to analysts, the effectiveness of governance should be measured not only by the amount of revenue received but also by how such resources improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, security and economic opportunities for residents.

They note that allocations from the federation account are determined by a number of factors, including derivation principles, population, internally generated revenue and other components of the FAAC sharing formula.
The records show that Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom emerged as the five highest recipients during the period under review, while Ekiti State received the lowest allocation among the states listed, with ₦17.12 billion.
The figures are expected to intensify conversations around fiscal responsibility and development outcomes as Nigerians increasingly demand greater accountability from elected officials at all levels of government.
