The ongoing leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly appears to be nearing a resolution, as Speaker Mojisola Meranda is reportedly set to resign.
Her resignation is expected to clear the path for the reinstatement of the impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
However, sources indicate that Obasa himself will step down shortly after his return, allowing for the emergence of a new speaker.
This development follows a high-level meeting held on Sunday night, at Lagos House, Marina, attended by members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and lawmakers.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, the agreement reached at the meeting is likely to be implemented during Monday’s plenary, scheduled for 1pm.
The announcement of Meranda’s resignation is expected to be made during the session.
“Despite the tense atmosphere, it was a frank session where all parties were able to bare their minds, and in the end, the stakeholders agreed on a win-win decision expected to end the shut-down of the House,” a source at the meeting revealed.
