A Lagos Special Offences Court has convicted Mohammed Idris, a supervisor at the hajj and cargo terminal gate of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, for diverting N11.2 million in missing funds.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) brought the case against Idris, accusing him of making false financial returns and corruptly benefiting from unaccounted funds collected in the course of his duties.
ICPC counsel, Yvonne Williams-Mbata, provided evidence before Justice O.A. Fadipe, showing that from February 2001 -April 2021, a total of N11, 234, 000 went missing under the defendant’s supervision.
The offense, he said violates Sections 26 (1) (b) and 25 (1) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Justice Fadipe sentenced Idris to one-year imprisonment on each of the two charges, with the option of a N1 million fine. The sentences will run concurrently.
Additionally, the convicted supervisor must enter a bond of good behavior with the court in the sum of N2 million. Failure to comply could result in an additional 10-year prison sentence.
The ICPC has reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability in public service.
