The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru, has hailed the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, as a symbol of military honor, professionalism, and bravery. Speaking at Lagbaja’s burial on Friday at the Military Cemetery in Abuja, Badaru highlighted the late general’s distinguished 30-year career, which set a benchmark for excellence in service to Nigeria.
“A true patriot who embodied the core values of soldiering and served Nigeria without reservation for over 30 years. In his final days, he fought his own battle, but we could not save him from the grasp of fate. General Lagbaja’s legacy, defined by his lifelong service to defend our nation, will endure as inspiration for generations to come.”
Badaru praised the late general’s courage, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the Nigerian Army. He noted that Lagbaja not only led his troops from the frontlines but also prioritized their welfare through various initiatives aimed at improving soldiers’ lives and strengthening the Army’s structure.

“He was a courageous soldier and an inspiring leader whose commitment to his troops extended beyond the battlefield. His welfare initiatives were instrumental in enhancing the well-being of soldiers and restructuring the Nigerian Army for greater efficiency,” the Minister added.
Badaru extended his heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagbaja’s family, and the Nigerian Army, urging them to find solace in the late general’s enduring legacy of service and sacrifice.
