The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has stepped down from her position, becoming one of the latest high-profile figures to exit the cabinet of President Bola Tinubu amid mounting political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Her resignation, disclosed on Friday via a post on X, aligns with a directive requiring political appointees with electoral ambitions to vacate their offices before participating in party primaries.

Onyejeocha’s departure follows a growing trend of cabinet members leaving their posts in preparation for anticipated governorship and other elective bids, signaling the early stages of what observers describe as a fierce nationwide political contest.

Although she has yet to officially declare her next move, political watchers are already linking her exit to possible ambitions in Abia State, where she remains a key figure within the ruling APC.

The ongoing wave of resignations is expected to significantly influence party dynamics and strategic alignments, both within the APC and across opposition blocs, as stakeholders begin positioning for the 2027 electoral cycle.
