A former presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has welcomed the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing his defection as a major boost to the party’s growing ranks.

Gwarzo’s defection, which was formalised on Sunday in Kano, marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, coming amid ongoing realignments triggered by Kwankwaso’s own recent move to the ADC.

In a statement shared on Monday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Kwankwaso praised Gwarzo’s decision, noting that the former deputy governor’s experience would strengthen the party’s structure and energise its base in Kano and beyond.

“I heartily congratulate Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, on his decision to join the African Democratic Congress,” Kwankwaso said.

He added that the reception organised in Gwarzo’s honour in his hometown reflected growing grassroots support for the ADC.

“The grand reception held yesterday in Gwarzo Town has not only strengthened our ranks with his wealth of experience, but has also injected fresh energy and renewed enthusiasm into the party,” he said.
