The national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has laid down fresh and firm conditions for any possible return to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, making it clear that he will not defect without concrete agreements and clearly defined terms.

Kwankwaso, a former two-term governor of Kano State, made his position known in a video message shared on Facebook by his media aide, Saifullahi Hassan. In the message, the influential politician said any move to rejoin the APC must be guided by clarity of purpose, agreed political direction and guarantees that the interests of the masses and his wide support base would be protected.

He warned that joining the ruling party without a proper understanding of expectations, responsibilities and commitments would be unacceptable, stressing that political decisions must go beyond personal ambition.

Kwankwaso said he would only consider such a move if he was fully briefed on his role, the direction of the political journey and the future of programmes meant to uplift ordinary people. He added that the position of his supporters and the Kano State Government must also be clearly addressed before any decision could be taken.

The NNPP leader further noted that politics should be driven by principles and binding agreements that safeguard the welfare of citizens, rather than opportunistic calculations.

His remarks come against the backdrop of rising speculation over a possible defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the APC. In recent weeks, reports have suggested that some political actors are mounting pressure on the governor to lead the NNPP structure in Kano into the ruling party.

While Governor Yusuf is said to have shown openness to the idea, Kwankwaso has reportedly opposed any hasty move, insisting that such a major political realignment must follow wide consultations and be anchored on clear, mutually respected terms.
