A Sallah visit by top political figures to the Kano residence of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has ignited fresh speculation over possible alliances ahead of future elections, despite assurances that the gathering was purely ceremonial.
Among those in attendance were Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, and Seriake Dickson, a mix of influential figures whose presence has drawn national attention.
The visit comes amid rising political activity and quiet consultations across party lines, including ongoing rumours linking Kwankwaso to a potential move toward the African Democratic Congress. While the former Kano governor dismissed any political motive, describing the meeting as part of Sallah celebrations, the timing and composition of the gathering have fueled debate.

In a message shared after the event, Kwankwaso expressed appreciation for the visit and extended festive goodwill to Nigerians, as supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement gathered in large numbers for the annual kalankuwa assembly held alongside the celebration.
Speaking during the visit, Obi maintained that his presence was strictly to pay Sallah homage and should not be interpreted as political engagement. Even so, he used the opportunity to draw attention to economic concerns, particularly the need to revive Kano’s once vibrant industrial base.
He pointed to key industrial zones such as Bompai and Sharada, urging renewed focus on restoring productivity, creating jobs, and strengthening local manufacturing. According to him, Kano’s historical role as a commercial hub must be rebuilt to drive broader economic growth.
Political analysts say the meeting reflects a growing pattern of cross-party interactions, as major actors weigh options and test possible alignments in a shifting political landscape. While no formal coalition has been announced, the presence of leaders from different blocs in one setting suggests that behind-the-scenes consultations may already be underway.
As the political climate gradually builds toward the next election cycle, such gatherings are likely to remain under close watch, with observers keen to see whether they evolve into concrete alliances or remain symbolic gestures of goodwill.
