Kogi State has banned all forms of rallies and public gatherings that could potentially disrupt public order.
This announcement was made through a security alert statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, during a press briefing held in Lokoja yesterday.
In his statement, Fanwo underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens, while maintaining Kogi State as a bastion of peace and security.
Drawing attention to credible intelligence reports, he emphasized the necessity for proactive measures to avert any security breaches that might destabilize the region.
The commissioner identified specific locations in the state experiencing heightened tension, particularly highlighting three critical flashpoints, Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette, all situated within the Kogi Local Government Area in Kogi West.
Fanwo elaborated that recent conflicts linked to fishing activities in these areas have resulted in escalating violence, tragically leading to the loss of two lives.

Consequently, the government has decided to suspend all fishing activities in the Kogi Local Government Area, until an environment of peace is adequately restored.
To ensure compliance with this directive and bolster security, law- enforcement agencies have been dispatched to the affected regions to facilitate peacekeeping efforts.
Additionally, the commissioner brought to light the situation in the Ankpa Local Government Area, specifically in Enjema District, where a communal clash between the Ika-Odele and Ika Ochala communities poses a significant threat to the stability of Kogi East.
He said the state government remains vigilant and dedicated to resolving these conflicts and restoring tranquility throughout the state.
