Kidnapped Catholic priest, others regain freedom in Port Harcourt

Reverend Fr. Maurice Livinus, a Catholic priest who was kidnapped along with two others last Wednesday has been released.

A statement by the State Police Public Relation Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko on Sunday announced the release of the victims.

The statement said the victims were released following pressure from the combined efforts of the security team comprising police men, soldiers from the JTF Isiokpo and local vigilante.

“Please be informed that today, 16th February 2022, at about 0630 hrs, information was received that the kidnapped victims, Rev. Maurice Livinus and others, have been released by their captors after pressure from the combined efforts of the security team comprising policemen, soldiers from the JTF Isiokpo, and the local vigilante.

“The victims have been reunited with their families for medical attention, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the culprits.”, the PPRO stated.

Fr. Maurice who is the Parish Priest of St Patrick’s Catholic Church Isiokpo was kidnapped alongside two others while they were returning from a hospital visitation along Elele-Isiokpo road in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State last Wednesday.

A statement by the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt, signed on behalf of the bishop by the Chancellor, Reverend Father Bernadine Anaele broke the sad news of the priest’s kidnap urging Christ faithful to pray for his release.
