President Bola Tinubu has appointed the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje as the chairman of the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The appointment was announced during the official inauguration of the newly appointed FAAN board members in Abuja.
Ganduje stepped down as the APC national chairman just days ago, before his new appointment.
The inauguration ceremony marked the official start of his role at FAAN.
Ganduje served as the governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023 and had previously held the position of deputy governor twice, from 1999 to 2003 and from 2011 to 2015.

His time as governor was characterized by both accomplishments and controversies. He proposed a budget exceeding N196 billion for the 2022 fiscal year, with a significant portion dedicated to education.
However, he also faced corruption allegations, including bribery and land fraud, which were investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Additionally, his relationship with the then Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, became strained, ultimately leading to the emir’s dethronement.
In the 2023 elections, Ganduje’s chosen successor, Nasiru Gawuna, lost the Kano State governorship poll to Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Governor Yusuf, who took office in May 2023, has since begun efforts to investigate Ganduje’s administration, including claims of land racketeering.
