Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has endorsed the involvement of foreign military forces in Nigeria’s battle against terrorism, asserting that the nation cannot afford to turn down assistance in the face of significant security challenges.

Keyamo expressed his views on Saturday in a post on X, responding to public discussions regarding recent US military airstrikes reportedly targeting terrorist groups in Nigeria.

He illustrated his point by stating that saving lives should take precedence over discussions about national sovereignty.

“When your house is on fire, it would be unwise to prevent someone with a fire extinguisher from helping. At that moment, you don’t debate privacy while your family is at risk,” he wrote.

His remarks came in light of confirmed US military operations aimed at Islamic State-affiliated terror groups in remote areas of Nigeria.

Nigerian officials have acknowledged their intelligence collaboration with the United States, clarifying that the airstrikes are intended to weaken terrorist organizations and avert further attacks on civilians.

The airstrikes have sparked mixed reactions across the country.

While some Nigerians have expressed concerns about sovereignty and the need for transparency, others contend that international cooperation is essential given the escalating insecurity.

The discussion continues as the federal government maintains that prioritizing the protection of lives is paramount.
