Kevin De Bruyne, one of Manchester City’s greatest-ever players, has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season, bringing an end to a legendary era at the Etihad.
The 33-year-old Belgian playmaker, who has been instrumental in City’s dominance over the past decade, made the emotional announcement on social media, leaving fans heartbroken.
“Writing this is not easy, but as football players, we all know this day will come eventually,” De Bruyne shared. “That day is now here, and you deserve to hear it from me first.”
Since joining City from Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne has established himself as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats, winning 14 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the coveted Champions League crown in 2023.
Reflecting on his journey, he said, “Football brought me to all of you and to this city. I chased my dream, not knowing that this time would change my life. This city, this club, these people gave me EVERYTHING. I had to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what? We won it all.”

His contract expires in June, but speculation remains over whether he will make his final appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup, which runs from June 14 to July 13.
“Every story has to finish, but this has truly been the best part,” De Bruyne added. “Let’s make the most of these final moments together!”
With his departure confirmed, the football world now eagerly awaits his next move. Will De Bruyne take on a new challenge in Europe, follow the path of stars to the Saudi Pro League, or seek a fresh adventure in MLS? One thing is certain—his legacy at Manchester City is immortal.
