On Saturday, the inaugural Enugu City International Marathon concluded with Koros Ken from Kenya taking the first place, earning a reward of $15,000 in a competition predominantly led by Kenyans in both the male and female divisions.
Kenya’s Steve Rasway secured the second position and received $10,000, while his fellow countryman Bernard Sang claimed third place and walked away with $5,000.
In the women’s division, Kenya’s Shauline Chepkiru Koech captured the top honor.
Among the Nigerian competitors, Davou Ezekiel from Jos, Plateau State was the highest finisher, securing the N3 million prize designated for local athletes.
The marathon showcased a remarkable turnout of runners and spectators, meeting all the expectations set before the event, along with its excellent organization, embodying all the qualities of a world-class race.

Governor Peter Mbah, who added vibrance to the event by taking part in the 10km race, expressed that the event surpassed all anticipations and emphasized his satisfaction with both the participation and competitive nature of the marathon.
“This event has highlighted the significance of sports and its capability in uniting our youth.
“I am thoroughly impressed with what I’ve observed, and it has further incentivized us as a state to enhance and expand the event for next year,” stated the governor.
More than 100 top-tier international athletes were present for the competition, joined by thousands of Nigerian runners, marking a historic conclusion for the first-ever Enugu City International Marathon.
