Tension has gripped Kebbi State following the abduction of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, by suspected bandits. The incident, confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nafiu Abubakar, occurred late Friday in Bagudo town, Bagudo Local Government Area.
According to the police report, the 60-year-old lawmaker was kidnapped shortly after observing Isha’i prayers. He was returning home when a group of armed assailants, wielding sophisticated weapons, attacked and whisked him away to an undisclosed location.
CSP Abubakar stated that a joint security operation comprising police tactical units, soldiers, and local vigilantes has been launched to rescue the lawmaker. The team, he said, is combing suspected hideouts and forest routes in pursuit of the kidnappers.

He urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies as efforts intensify to ensure the safe return of the abducted Deputy Speaker.
The abduction comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West region, where kidnapping for ransom has continued to disrupt communities, political activities, and local governance.
