The Katsina State government has reiterated its commitment to creating more opportunities for young people as part of efforts to strengthen youth development policies in the state.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Surajo Yazeed Abukur, stated this during a youth policy dialogue held in Katsina.
The dialogue brought together about 55 participants drawn from government institutions, youth-led organisations and civil society groups to review existing policy gaps and discuss steps toward aligning the state’s youth development framework with Nigeria’s national youth policy.
Abukur said the state government remained committed to youth empowerment, job creation and the inclusion of young people in governance and development processes.
“The Katsina State government, under the leadership of His Excellency, remains committed to youth empowerment, job creation and the participation of young people in decision-making processes,” the commissioner said.
He added that his ministry would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening youth-focused policies and empowering young people for the development of the state.
Meanwhile the engagement began on March 11 with an advocacy visit to the ministry where discussions focused on the direction of youth policy development in the state and areas where the dialogue workshop could support ongoing efforts.
The policy dialogue was organised under the Youth Leading Change Programme implemented by Bridge Connect Africa Initiative with support from the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund.

Director of Youth Development in the ministry, Sani Yahaya, said Katsina State had since 2023 been working on the domestication of the National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security with support from the United Nations Development Programme.
According to him, the framework is expected to be formally launched after Ramadan, after which the government will begin broader consultations toward adopting the national youth policy at the state level.
Participants at the dialogue also examined issues affecting young people in the state, including youth participation in governance, access to education and skills development, employment opportunities and inclusive development.
They also outlined priority steps to strengthen youth policy processes and deepen collaboration between government institutions, youth organisations and civil society groups.
