Twenty-four people have lost their lives to various fire incidents from January to December this year in Katsina state.
This is even as the state has recorded a total of 568 fire incidents across its 34 Local Government Areas during same period.
The State Chief Fire Officer, Lawal Saulawa who stated this in an interview with newsmen, however said the department was able to save 45 fire victims during the period.
Saulawa said the department was able to saved properties worth more than N2 billion while properties worth N600 million were lost.

He, however, said that the department has stepped up measures to minimize outbreaks of fire disaster especially during the harmattan period.
According to him, “We embarked on enlightenment through radio and television to educate people on how to avert fire disaster especially during harmattan season.”
