The Katsina State Government has approved ₦20 million for each of the 34 Local Government Areas to renovate graveyards across the state. Governor Dikko Radda announced the decision on Thursday while receiving royal fathers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates at Government House.

Governor Radda explained that the initiative is not only a service to the people but also a spiritual investment, seeking Allah’s blessings for the state. He emphasized that respect for the dead and dignity for burial sites remain a responsibility of government and communities alike.

The governor also unveiled a sweeping welfare package designed to empower traditional rulers, religious leaders, and mosque workers. Under a new law passed by the State House of Assembly, all District Heads will now earn salaries equivalent to Grade Level 16. In addition, 6,652 Ward Heads across Katsina will receive monthly allowances, while over 3,000 Imams and their deputies serving Friday Mosques will benefit from stipends. Izala and Darika Mosque sweepers in every local government will also be placed on allowances.

Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting insecurity, which he described as the state’s top priority. According to him, more than 1,500 youths have already been trained, kitted with uniforms, life jackets, and operational tools to support security operations across troubled areas. He urged traditional rulers and community leaders to lead sensitization efforts, stressing that “security is a collective responsibility” and that citizens must play their part before government interventions can achieve lasting results.

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, represented by the District Head of Baure, Alhaji Daha Umar-Farouq, expressed solidarity with the governor following his recent car accident. Similarly, the Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, who represented the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, praised the governor’s reforms. He said the administration’s initiatives have restored dignity to traditional institutions while strengthening their influence in governance and community development.

The Emirate Council, he added, will continue to support the government with prayers and cooperation, in the hope of fostering peace, unity, and prosperity across Katsina State.
