The Katsina State House of Assembly has sounded an alarm over the growing wave of deadly bandit attacks terrorizing communities across the state. The warning was issued during Wednesday’s plenary session, presided over by Speaker Alhaji Nasir Yahaya-Daura, as lawmakers expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity and its devastating toll on innocent lives.
Leading the charge was Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar-Khamis, representing Dutsinma Constituency, who moved a motion demanding urgent deployment of additional military forces and security personnel to vulnerable areas. According to him, the frequency and brutality of these attacks have escalated sharply, leaving residents gripped by fear and uncertainty.
Abubakar-Khamis, who also chairs the House Committee on Security, revealed that communities such as Makera, Gammo, Karofi, and Dabawa in Dutsinma Local Government Area are now facing daily assaults. He described a grim scenario where armed bandits have not only killed civilians and injured security officers but have also kidnapped numerous residents, plunging entire communities into chaos.
While commending the efforts of the Katsina State Government in combating insecurity, Abubakar-Khamis emphasized that state-level action alone is no longer enough. He stressed that it is time for the federal government to scale up its intervention, as the current security measures have failed to curb the surge in violence.

Several lawmakers echoed his sentiments, painting a bleak picture of the security situation in their own constituencies and calling for a comprehensive, multi-level response strategy. They urged both state and federal authorities to urgently reassess and revamp their approach to restoring peace and stability across Katsina. In a unanimous decision, the House of Assembly adopted the motion and formally sent a resolution to the executive arm, urging immediate and decisive action to safeguard the lives and property of the people. As banditry continues to threaten the state’s fragile security, the Assembly’s resolution marks a desperate plea for stronger national support in what has become an increasingly dire crisis.
