The Kano State government has announced plans to reopen seven toll gates across major entry points into the state as part of measures to strengthen security surveillance and regulate vehicular movement.

Commissioner for Housing Development, Ibrahim Adamu, disclosed this during the official handover of project sites to contractors in Kano.

A statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Adamu Abdullahi, said the commissioner said the decision was informed by the need to enhance the state’s security architecture amid rising security concerns, noting that effective monitoring of vehicles entering the state remained critical to safeguarding lives and property.

He explained that the toll gates will be mounted on major highways leading into the Kano metropolis to boost intelligence gathering, improve traffic control, and support socio-economic development.

“The state government has resolved to reopen toll gates on major roads leading into the metropolis with a view to strengthening security and improving the socio-economic apparatus of the state,” Adamu stated.

The seven proposed sites are located along Daura Road, Katsina Road, Gwarzo Road, Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road, Hadejia Road, and Sa’adatu Rimi axis.

The commissioner urged contractors handling the projects to adhere strictly to specifications and ensure timely delivery in line with contractual agreements.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Marwan Ahmed, and the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Dr. Nura Ma’aji.

A major highlight of the event was the signing of handover documents between representatives of the Ministry of Housing Development, the contractors, and the project consultant, signaling the formal commencement of work.
