Kano State has inaugurated an 11-member committee to facilitate skills acquisition programmes in the state-owned tertiary institutions in an effort at boosting skills and entrepreneurship among graduating students.
The committee inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, has Dr. Fa’izah Adhama of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, as chairman of the committee.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation and Political Affairs, Directorate of the Cabinet Office, Alhaji Umar Jalo, the SSG emphasized on the present administration’s commitment to equipping youths with practical skills, highlighting the importance of producing graduates who are job creators rather than job seekers.
He urged the committee to develop a practical and implementable framework that can be sustainable and could complement formal education.
Alhaji Ibrahim emphasized on the need to provide options for students to acquire profitable vocational and technical skills even before graduation, as part of the state’s long-term developmental goals.
“It is high time we encouraged our graduating youth to focus more on becoming self-reliant and less dependent on paper qualifications.
“This initiative is a life-saving one that seeks to empower our young people, who make up a significant portion of our population,” he stated.

The Chairperson of the committee, Dr. Adhama, expressed gratitude to the governor for the trust reposed in her and pledged her total commitment to delivering on the assignment.
She assured all stakeholders of the committee’s readiness to work diligently and deliver results that will enhance youth empowerment and economic diversification in the state.
The committee’s secretariat will be led by Aliyu Sani, Director of Research and Evaluation, with Sani Abdulkadir, the Senior Assistant Secretary from the REPA Directorate, serving as co-secretary.
Members of the committee include, Dr. Sani Inuwa (Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education), Dr. Umar Tarauni (Kano State Polytechnic), Dr. Bilyaminu Ado (Northwest University, Kano), Dr. Rabiu Shawai (Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology)
Others are Bilkisu Zubair, Muhammad Ibrahim, Dr. Tine Jibrin, with representativez from the Ministry of Higher Education.
