Kano State has reinstated its commitment to empowering women, and youths in the state to reach their full potentials.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Disabled, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, stated this on Saturday during a press conference as part of activities to mark the International Women’s Day celebration in the state.
According to her, despite the progress in the ongoing struggle for gender equity, women and girls continue to face significant barriers including discrimination, violence, and limited access to education and economic opportunities, stressing on the importance of collective action to addressing these issues.
She said the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf, is committed to the advancement of women through, various initiatives and programmes, noting that empowering women is essential to achieving sustainable development, and promoting social cohesion.
“Kano State Government has a blueprint that serves as a guiding document of governance, out of which there is a solid pillar titled; youth and women empowerment.

“This shows how committed, and passionate this administration is towards making women’s lives more sustainable, and improving their affordability of living,” she stated.
The commissiner commended the governor for the several empowerment initiatives, such as the distribution of 7,158 goats to 2,386 women in the livestock fattening programme, 50,000 monthly empowerment programme for vulnerable women, provision of micro-finance loans to support women’s businesses, and entrepreneurship, amongst others.
She however, noted that the state will continue to make policies, and programmes that will promote gender equity, partner stakeholders to support women empowerment initiatives, and ensure the domestication of the national policy on women economic empowerment, for women’s development in the state.
