Nigeria’s House of Representatives has been thrown into mourning following the death of lawmaker Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, who represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, at the age of 66.
The announcement was confirmed by House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, who disclosed that the legislator died on Friday evening in Abuja after a period of illness.
Hassan, elected into the National Assembly in 2023 under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary. His death has been described as a major loss to Nigeria’s legislative system, given his long-standing experience and influence in parliamentary affairs.
Before joining partisan politics, the late lawmaker built a distinguished career within the National Assembly bureaucracy, where he rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary. His expertise as a legislative draftsman and administrator earned him respect across party lines and positioned him as a key figure in shaping legislative and constitutional processes.

Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, extended condolences to the family of the deceased, his constituents, and the people of Kano State, noting that Hassan’s passing leaves a significant gap in the country’s legislative landscape.
The late lawmaker is expected to be laid to rest on Saturday in line with Islamic rites, as tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, political associates, and constituents who remember him for his service and dedication.
