The Kano State government has reiterated it commitment to having a good working relationship with civil Society organizations, geared towards having a transparent and inclusive governance and strengthening accountability in the state.
Governor Abba Yusuf gave assurance on Monday, while declaring open a two-day conference for Kano State civil society organisations, organised by the state Ministry of information and Home Affairs, with the theme, “Empowering civil society organizations in Kano State for a sustainable future”.
Gov. Yusuf, who was represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, emphasized that key initiatives such as the State Safe Corridor Program for Youth Rehabilitation, revival of the State Data Center, and comprehensive procurement reforms are put in place to strengthen accountability.
He described CSOs as “the conscience of society,” acknowledging their crucial role in amplifying vulnerable voices, monitoring government actions, and mobilizing citizens for democratic participation.
While particularly commending the CSOs‘ resilience in education, healthcare, gender justice, climate action, and anti-corruption advocacy, Gov. Yusuf emphasized that sustainable development requires collaborative efforts, hence, sought their partnership in policy formulation, project monitoring, and citizen mobilization to bridge the gap between government plans and community realities.

In his keynote remarks, the Information Commissioner, Ibrahim Waiya, emphasized that, empowering CSOs extends far beyond traditional funding or dialogue invitations, instead recognizing them as “co-architects of democracy” with grassroots presence, prevents governance from becoming an abstraction.
He noted that the conference signals a new chapter where inclusivity, transparency, and grassroots-driven development transition from mere aspirations to concrete commitments, with the challenge now being to transform the gathering’s energy into enduring networks and collaborative frameworks.
He noted that Gov. Yusuf’s administration has implemented a comprehensive 10-point reform agenda demonstrating its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and commitment to accountability.
This, he said, includes the strict enforcement of procurement laws through transparent bidding, digitization of processes via the Kano State Integrated Monitoring System, monthly project monitoring across all local government areas, and immediate public disclosure of all State Executive Council approvals.
