A remarkable birth has been recorded in Kano as a mother of eight, Hafsatu Yusuf, delivered quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, with the state government stepping in to cover the full cost of medical care.
The Kano State Ministry of Health confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Na’isa, describing the delivery as both rare and medically significant.
According to the ministry, the mother gave birth to five babies, three boys and two girls, who are currently receiving specialised care alongside their mother at the facility. Medical personnel are closely monitoring their condition to ensure stability and proper development.
Speaking on the development, the husband, Salisu Nufi’u, a commercial tricycle operator, revealed that this is his wife’s ninth delivery. He noted that her previous childbirth produced twins, making this her first experience with quintuplets.
He expressed deep appreciation to the Kano State Government for its swift intervention, describing the support as crucial at a time when the financial burden of such a rare delivery could have been overwhelming.

“This support has come at a very critical moment for my family, and we are deeply grateful,” he said.
Health officials say the intervention reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare across the state. Authorities also reaffirmed efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality while expanding access to quality medical services, particularly for low-income households.
The birth has drawn attention within the state, highlighting both the challenges and importance of strengthening healthcare systems to handle complex deliveries and support vulnerable families.
