The Kano State Law Reform Commission has earmarked N100 million for the reformation of various laws of the state in 2025.
Chairman of the commission, Justice Lawal Muhammadu, made this known shortly after he defended the commission’s 2025 budget before the State House of Assembly Committee on Judiciary.
Justice Muhammadu informed the state legislators that many of the state’s laws are in need of reforms, a project it started earlier in the year but was unfortunately damaged and burned during the August protest in the state.
He said the whole work is starting all over again with a total budget of N100 million to reform all the laws in the coming year.
“There are many laws that are old; Some were made before Nigeria’s independence and are as old as since 1837, and are based on British law. Some of them are not even used in the country, but we still have them here.
