The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested10 persons in Kano metropolis for allegedly violating the Ramadan fast, selling food items during fasting hours and loitering.
The arrests were made during an early morning raid conducted on Wednesday, as part of enforcement activities marking the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment of the board, Auwalu Sheshe, the operation was led by the Officer-in-Charge of Operations, Hafizu Adakawa.
According to the statement, eight youths were arrested at different locations across the metropolis for allegedly failing to observe the Ramadan fast.
The areas covered include Kantin Kwari, Grand Central Hotel Street, Railway area, Unguwar Danmaliki, Ibrahim Taiwo Road and Obasanjo Road.

The board also arrested a food vendor, Murna Audu, and a sugarcane seller, Abubakar Tukur, at ‘Yan Rake, Kofar Kansakali, for allegedly selling food items during fasting hours.
In a related development, two young women, aged 16 and 20, were arrested along Nassarawa Hospital Road for alleged loitering.
The Hisbah board said the suspects expressed regret over their actions and pleaded for leniency, assuring the board they would not repeat the alleged offences.
The board warned that its enforcement operations would be intensified and extended to motor parks and other public places, stressing that it would not tolerate what it described as immoral conduct during Ramadan.
It also urged ward heads and residents to report suspicious or immoral activities within their communities for immediate action.
The Hisbah board reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing moral discipline across Kano State, particularly during the Ramadan period.
