Kano State has commended Bridge Connect Africa Initiative (BCAI), for empowering 50 women through sustainable initiatives in an effort to combat Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the state.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abba Yusuf on Women Education, Yasmin Murktar, commended the organization, during a showcase event organised by BCAI for the empowered women to showcase their businesses, share and connect with potential supporters, and investors who can help them scale up their initiatives in Kano.
Murktar, who described the project as an incredible project, said, it is something the state government is passionate about doing.
She said since the inception of the current administration in the state, Gov. Abba Yusuf, has done remarkable projects regarding women development, such as the N50, 000 monthly empowerment for women across the state.
“It’s an honour for the BCAI to implement this kind of project, where women are thriving to break the barriers of gender based violence, and are economically empowered through sustainable initiatives such as sustainable agriculture and food processing.
“When you empower a woman, you have empowered a nation; this will go a long in sustaining not only her family, but her community at large,” she stated.

BCAI’s Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Fatima Musa, highlighted that the project – Women Against Violence through Economic Sustainability (WAVES), was a five- month initiative that built an ecosystem of women entrepreneurs, enhancing their economic security and preventing gender-based violence, through sustainable business and agricultural practices.
Mrs. Musa noted that the women were selected from 11 local government areas of the state, and were trained on business development, gender-based violence, and climate smart agricultural practices.
She added that the women were also exposed to different opportunities among others, having understood the relationship between economic dependence and gender-based violence.
However, she noted that the showcase event was organised with support from the Canadian High Commission through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), highlighting that the organisation hopes to reach over 100, 000 women across Nigeria, in the near future.
