In a significant political realignment, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has reshuffled his executive council, scrapped the Chief of Staff portfolio, and removed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, citing health reasons.
The Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, announced the changes in a statement on Thursday, marking the first major cabinet shake-up of Yusuf’s administration. According to the statement, the reshuffle aims to enhance administrative efficiency and deliver greater democratic dividends to the people of Kano State.

and improve service delivery. The shake-up saw the removal of some key cabinet members, reassignment of others, and the retention of a select few in their original roles.
Prominent figures retained in their current roles include Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, and Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran. Others include Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Marwan Ahmad, and Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Musa Suleiman Shannon.
Several members of the cabinet were reassigned to new portfolios. Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, formerly overseeing Local Government, now heads the Ministry of Higher Education. Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman has moved from Science and Technology to Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata now heads Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Further reassignments included Hon. Amina Abdullahi transitioned from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children, and People with Disabilities, and Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo moving from Environment and Climate Change to Special Duties.
The reshuffle also involved dropping five commissioners, including Ibrahim Jibril Fagge of the Ministry of Finance and Ladidi Ibrahim Garko of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The Governor directed the affected individuals, including the Chief of Staff, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, to report to his office for possible reassignment.
