Kano witnessed one of its most sweeping anti-narcotics actions in years as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency announced the arrest of 230 suspects and the seizure of a substantial haul of illicit substances after a 30-day operation that swept through the state’s most notorious drug zones.

The Command described the effort as a decisive push in the wider campaign against the criminal networks that have fed addiction and street violence across the metropolis.

State Commander Abubakar Idris, speaking at the Command headquarters, said the coordinated raids marked a turning point in the campaign currently anchored by the Kano State Joint Taskforce for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation. He explained that the operation drew strength from joint deployments involving the Police, NSCDC, Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service and the DSS. Their combined presence allowed operatives to reach entrenched drug hotspots long considered difficult to access.

The sweep extended through Kofar Ruwa, Tashar Rami, Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna, Mil Tara, Zage, Dorayi Karshen Waya, Dawanau, Filin Idi, Research, Rimi Market, Zango, Kofar Mata, Kano Line and Ladanai. From these areas, officers recovered cannabis sativa, EXOL-5, diazepam, suck-and-die, rubber solution and codeine syrup. Locally made weapons linked to drug syndicates were also taken into custody.

Idris said the results reflect a strategy focused on dismantling the drug economy, driving thuggery, phone snatching and a wide range of violent crimes. He noted that the impact of the operation is already visible in communities reporting fewer incidents of substance abuse and street disorder.

He called on community leaders, parents, civil society groups and neighbourhood associations to work more closely with security agencies as collective vigilance remains essential to sustaining the gains achieved so far.

Chairman of the Joint Taskforce and Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Sanusi Kofar-Mata, praised the resolve of the operatives and reaffirmed the state government’s support for the ongoing campaign, describing the operation as a strong statement against the networks undermining public safety in the state.
